EMPOWERMENT FRAMEWORK

Self-defense is taught from an empowerment framework. This means that we believe that individuals do the very best they can in all situations to remain safe, and that we are committed to providing accurate information and the skills people need in order to make the best decisions for their lives and to enhance their safety in a variety of situations. We will never blame the victim of an attack for that attack, nor will we give the false sense of security of claiming that a particular technique that we teach will work in all situations. We use this model not only because it feels intuitively like the right thing to do, but because there is strong evidence that this model works – not only as a tool to prevent violence, but as a tool to help people live with less anxiety and depression, and more confidence and joy.

​EMPOWERMENT SELF DEFENSE (E.S.D.)

Empowerment self-defense is a set of awareness, assertiveness, verbal confrontation skills, safety strategies, and physical techniques that enable someone to successfully prevent, escape, resist and survive violent assaults.

A good self-defense course provides psychological awareness and verbal skills, not just physical training.

Empowerment Self Defense (ESD) works.

 

Women trained in ESD experience fewer and less severe completed assaults and fewer attempted assaults overall (Hollander 2014).Research of 451 women on three college campuses in Canada published in the New England Journal of Medicine found a 50% reduction in unwanted sexual contact, sexual coercion, attempted rape, and completed rape (Senn 2015).

ESD increases self-confidence and self-efficacy, perceived control, assertiveness, physical competence, and disclosure. It also decreases anxiety, fear, feelings of helplessness, and perhaps more importantly, self-blame (Breklin 2008 and Hollander 2014).

WHY WING TJUN IS USED AS THE FORM OF SELF DEFENSE

Because of its intrinsic properties, Wing Tjun is ideal for self-defense especially in a crowded metropolitan setting. It can be fairly easily taught to a person regardless of age/size, without the need to enhance their strength or ‘building up’ their body in any way. It is brutally effective and can be lethal in the right hands. It takes two to three years of regular practice to truly master the basics, but a diligent student can easily learn to defend himself or herself against a typical street attack within a matter of months, with the right instructions.

We often engage in speaking to groups on related topics including wing tsun, self-defense and empowerment. 

Public events at schools for children, teens and college students encourage self defense and empowerment.

 

WELLNESS & SELF DEFENSE FOR BUSINESS

Concerning business and wellness the application of Wing Tjun principles to business, provide a blueprint for success in strategy, decision making and management.  Besides the hands on self defense seminars/workshops that are designed for business; we also include Wing Tjun Wellness which includes a seminar on how employees can utilize the principles of Wing Tjun and implement them in their daily work lives to achieve increased productivity, efficiency and perforamcen both at work and in their personal lives.

Attending an  intensive 8 hour Self Defense (Two four hour days) seminar raises your ability to protect yourself

You learn strategically in 2 days, tactical behavior and movement concepts that can save your life in dangerous situations! Or we have the 4 hour Wing Tjun Wellness seminars for wellness.
